Currently, all May and June Camps have been Cancelled.

California residents have been asked to stay at home unless necessary. Summer Camps will begin July 6th unless conditions call for an extension.  

Notice to our Families

The safety and health of all of our campers and staff is always our highest priority. Due to the continued directives from San Diego County Health and California Department of Public Health regarding gatherings and social distancing, we have decided to cancel our May and June Camps. We will continue to look for guidance from San Diego County and the CDC and will take every precaution to reopen safely. As of right now, we do not know when camps will run.

If you are registered for a May or June Camp, we would be happy to issue a credit for future use. Alternatively, you may request a refund, or choose, to donate the fees paid to Camp Fire San Diego to help support our organization and allow us to continue to support our community for the future. If we do not hear from you by May 22nd, we will issue you a credit for June; credits are valid for three years from the date they are issued. To initiate your request, please email us back at [email protected].

Inventors Camp *NEW* @ Camp CaHiTo

For Campers 6-10 years old.

Calling all young engineers, learn to construct marble run obstacle courses, roller coasters, levers and linkages oh my. See your creations come to life!  Develop critical skills – all of this weeks challenges will build engineering, reasoning and planning skills and provides a great learning experience for all Campers.   

Although it is a Speciality Camp campers also will get to do all of the other awesome activities CaHiTo has to offer; including hiking, archery, arts and crafts, sports, singing, forts, organized games, swimming (allowing that the camper is 8 and up at the start of program) and much more.


Program

A typical day begins with all Campers meeting at their Color Groups.  At 9:05 am all groups will head to the Stage Area for Songs, Skits & Games.

All Campers will be called up by their counselor into small groups of children of the same age, with whom they will spend the entire session. Camp CaHiTo is a “group-centered” camp – meaning that our campers have the same counselor and peer group for the duration the camp session. Group-centered camping gives children the best opportunity to experience the powerful feeling of belonging, to make and keep new friends, and to connect with their counselors.

Our Specialty Programs includes a minimum of 1.5 – 2 hours a day of Specialty specific programming. They will also participate in daily traditional camp activities, all of which are age-appropriate games, hikes, and more determined by their counselors to fit the theme of the week and what the group likes to do. Activities include Archery, Hiking, Low Ropes, Swimming, Art and Crafts, Fort Building, Organized Games and more.

Camp CaHiTo located at 3101 Balboa Drive, San Diego, CA 92101. The west side of Balboa Park, conveniently located in Balboa Park near I-5 and the 163 freeways. The official traditional day camp hours are 9:00 am – 3:00 pm. Drop off begins at 8:30 am and pick up needs to be by 3:30 pm. We do offer extended hours for a nominal additional fee, morning extended hours start at 6:30 am and after hours end promptly at 6:00 pm. A snack will be provided during the pm extended hours.

What campers should bring to Camp

  • A lunch. Refrigeration is not available, so do not send perishable foods. A small snack will be provided every day, or you can bring your own.
  • A Water bottle with your campers names on it.
  • Comfortable play clothes, as campers, WILL get dirty.
  • Closed toed shoes and socks required. No sandals or open back shoes.
  • A hat or cap and sunscreen. Parents are required to apply lotion before camp for their child’s protection. Camp counselors are not allowed to help apply.

Wacky Gross Science Specialty Camp @ Camp CaHiTo

For Campers 6-10 years old.

Be prepared to get your hands dirty! Learn the science behind sneezing while we make our own sneezey slime! What are some of the worst smells?  Can you eat bugs? You will get your daily dose of science and a dash of gross!

Space Explorer Specialty Camp @ Camp CaHiTo

For Campers 6-10 years old.

Space Explorer Camp keeps our campers feet firmly planted here on Earth, while giving them a glimpse of the vastness of Space. During our spacetastic week, we will be learning about our solar system and the planets that make it up as well as designing targets for our Alka-seltzer rockets to take off from. Every day they will get a better understanding of the cosmos, the people who work in space as well as the Machines that get us there.

Although it is a Speciality Camp campers also will get to do all of the other awesome activities CaHiTo has to offer; including hiking, archery, arts and crafts, sports, singing, forts, organized games, swimming (allowing that the camper is 8 and up at the start of program) and much more.

Wizardry of Chemistry Specialty Camp @ Camp CaHiTo

How can you make a coke bottle shoot its contents into the air? And why does that happen?  Can we leave an invisible message with things from the kitchen? Sometimes science can feel like magic, until you learn how it works!

Engineering Camp *NEW* @ Camp CaHiTo

Calling all budding engineers and scientists, throughout the week Campers will build a puppy-bot, catapult, play the roller coaster challenge and more. Campers will discover how levers can be used and how they integrate with structures.
