Summer Camp Counselor

Summer Employment

  • Summer dates include June 2nd through August 29th
  • We ask that eligible staff be available for a minimum of 7 weeks

**Potential for Spring Employment from March 24th through April 18th

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Reports To: Camp Director

Camp CaHiTo Camp Counselors work outdoors with children ages 3-16 in a fast-paced, fun environment. Camp Hours are 35 – 40 hours per week: Group A meets 7:30 a.m.—4:00 p.m., Group B meets 8:00 a.m.—4:30 p.m., and Group C meets 8:30 a.m.—5:00 p.m.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1-year Camp or recreation-related experience
  • In-person CPR/First Aid Certification from one of the following institutions (a course is available pre-camp for a nominal fee): A-B-CPR – Basic First Aid and CPR, American Red Cross, American Heart Association, American Safety and Health Institute, EMS Safety Services, Emergency First Response, National Safety Council. Other advanced certifications are acceptable; please inquire at the interview if needed.
  • Experience in staff supervision
  • Ability to plan and implement programs
  • Knowledge of child development
  • Knowledge of progression within a camp setting

The ideal applicant will:

  • Demonstrate the ability to confidently campers during sports, songs, group games, art activities, etc.
  • Be receptive to directions and instructions and able to give directions to staff members
  • Be comfortable working with children in both indoor and outdoor settings
  • Be comfortable interacting with parents, peers, and third parties
  • Be willing to adhere to support Camp Fire policies and procedures
  • Be able to lift 40 lbs

Pre-employment Requirements:

  • Complete a Camp Health History form and Health Screening
  • Complete a TB Test before the start of Camp
  • Provide proof of eligibility to work in the U.S.
  • Have current Red Cross CPR & Standard First Aid Certification
  • Submit to a background check (cost paid by the employer after hire)

General Responsibilities:

  • Leads and assists a small group through a variety of camp programming
  • Assist with activities and other camp responsibilities as assigned
  • Be responsible for the welfare of individuals participating in programming
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of programs to reflect Camp Fire philosophy, program standards, and ACA standards
  • Keep the supervisor informed of progress, problems, and facility maintenance needs
  • Maintain equipment in a good and safe condition
  • Ensure that each child is provided a positive outdoor experience by having fun through a high-quality program in a unique setting.
  • Wear staff uniform and abide by the dress code
  • Maintain and further the objectives of Camp Fire.
  • Abide by the policies and expectations of the Camp Fire Employee Handbook.
  • Maintain risk reduction and emergency procedures
  • Report all accidents immediately
  • These are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be reassigned.

Job Types: Part-time, Temporary

Pay: $17.25 – $23.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
